If India Win | Selection | The Process of Re-Building a Franchise T20 Team | Seattle Orcas Stadium | The Battery in Atlanta | Cricket Franchises are Real Estate Companies
Investment Wisdom from Warren Buffett
“Cash is to a business as oxygen is to an individual: never thought when it is present, the only thing in mind when it is absent.”
If India Win
If India Win the 2nd Test Match in Birmingham We Will See the Worst Form of Resulting. We Will See Everyone and their Mother (No Offense to Mothers) convince themselves that it was Logical to Rest Bumrah because India Batted Really Well in Birmingham and Bowled Really Well in Birmingham. The Reality of course is Very Different. India has Outplayed England in the 2nd Test Match. At the same time, India’s Logic and Process to Rest Jasprit Bumrah requires Greater Scrutiny. Equally, England have Bowled Poorly. England’s Evaluation, Build, and Usage of their Bowling Attack Requires Greater Scrutiny. Last But Not Least, irrespective of what happens the Rest of Today One Must Give Credit to Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep.
India’s Captain has Batted like the Perfect Hybrid between Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Mohammad Azharuddin.
Ravindra Jadeja’s Two Innings have been Perfect Paradigms of Batting Depth.
Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep have reminded us of the Value of Bowling Skill.
Selection
I came across a Post on X that said the Following.
Sibley Couldn’t Do Worse than Crawley
Dawson Couldn’t Do Worse than Bashir
Bethell in for Pope
Hill is Worth a Look
These aren’t Reasons to Select or Drop Anyone. This should never be the Approach of a Team-Builder. It Certainly doesn’t help Building Sustainable Championship Teams. That Said, there are Directors of Cricket, Head Coaches in Cricket, and Cricket Captains that actually think this way. Good Teams and Good Cricket Organizations Don’t Think Like This.
Seattle Orcas and The Process of Building a Franchise Team
When the Seattle Orcas got off to an 0 and 5 Start, they weren’t playing as badly as the Final Results indicated. When they fired Matthew Mott they won 3 Games in a Row on the Back of Insanely Brilliant Batting from Shimron Hetymer. In those 3 Games the Orcas weren’t as good as the Final Results indicated. I would apply the same logic pattern for Games 9 and 10. That Said, the Plight of the Seattle Orcas did get me thinking about the Process of Building a Franchise Team.
The Process of Building a Franchise Team begins at the End of the Previous Season. It begins with how you Evaluate Success and Failure.
The Correct Evaluation of Success and Failure Should Lead to Re-Calibrating the Team-Building Process.
Retentions. That Re-Calibration to Determine Better Retention Decisions.
Evaluate and Archetype Local and International Talent.

When Teams are Losing, they Focus on Poor Decision-Making In-Season. But usually the Mistakes have happened long before Elements 7 and 8. Now is the Time to Focus on Element No. 1 and the Few Before that.
While We Should Scrutinize Cricket Operations and Decisions, Seattle’s Approach to Building a Community Cricket Park along with Other Local Cricket Development is something we can learn from. I would encourage you to Read the Following Article.
Steve Cohen | Metropolitan Park | New York Mets | Major League Baseball
Steve Cohen is the Billionaire Founder of Point72 Asset Management and Owner of the New York Mets. Cohen bought the New York Mets for $2.4B in 2020. The New York Mets have a Wage Bill exceeding $300M and this Offseason Signed Juan Soto to a 15 Year and $765M Contract. It is the largest contract in Major League Baseball History. While New York Mets Revenue amounted to $393M in 2023, Professional Sports in 2025 is far more than the Business of the Sport itself.
That’s why Steve Cohen has joined forces with Hard Rock Entertainment to propose an $8B Gaming Center, Hotel and Music Venue dubbed the Metropolitan Park. This lavish new entertainment complex will be built around Citi Field (Mets Stadium) in Queens, New York. It will be home to 20 acres of green space, 5 acres of athletic fields, playgrounds, and access to Flushing Bay and Corona Park. While Cohen is yet to receive approval from City of New York, I suspect this is going to happen because there is too much money to be made. Elements of Metropolitan Park.
20 Acres of Public Park Space
Bars and Restaurants
Sportsbook
Live Music Venue
Hotel Towers
Conference Spaces
Bike Paths
Train Station
This isn’t of course a New Idea. Stadiums everywhere in the United States are now Economic Hubs that are combined with Sports-Adjacent Development. The Battery Atlanta is a Mixed-Use Development Built Next Door to Truist Park. The Battery Atlanta includes 400,000 Square Feet of Leasable Retail, 531 Residential Units, Office Space, Restaurants, and Two Hotels. The Corporate Offices include Headquarters for Papa Johns. The Battery Atlanta was constructed for $400M. It generates almost $50M in Revenue Per Year and attracts 10.3 million visitors. Most of these visitors visit from outside Cobb County.
Cricket is likely not in a position to View Development and Stadium Construction from the Perspective Shared Above. But there are Elements of that Approach that Crcket can learn from and Incorporate in how they think about Cricket Stadiums and Ecosystem Growth.
